How Do I Speed Clean My House?

We all want to spend as much time as we can with our families. But the problem is that so many time-consuming things get in the way. One of these things is… deep cleaning. Your home craves it, but it’s a daunting task. You start deep cleaning one room, and boom: 4 hours pass and you’re finally done. You look around the house and see numerous other uncleaned rooms, overwhelmed.

Don’t worry, it may be a daunting task, but there’s a technique to getting it done quick. Speed cleaning is it’s name and it’s a powerful tool if practiced well. It will take some practice and concentration, but you will gradually get faster.

Put On Your Apron!

An apron is an essential part to your speed clean. Keep your all-purpose, glass cleaner, and degreaser on you when you’re in a room where you need it. Bonus points if you have a large cleaning caddy, keeping everything you need for dusting, scrubbing, and more inside.

How to Speed Clean Bathrooms

We gotta start somewhere, so lets knock out the bathrooms.

Start with the top and work your way to the bottom for every room in your house, since dust and debris will fall onto surfaces below.

Speed Clean Dusting

Dusting is our first step, and to make sure we don’t miss anything, lets go clockwise (counter-clockwise if you’re left-handed) and dust light fixtures, pictures on the wall, towel racks, cabinets, tops of mirrors, light switches, baseboards, and more. Get all that pesky dust off. If you’re dusting above toothbrushes and the like, be sure to move them aside so dust doesn’t settle on those.

Mirrors and Sinks

Next step is the mirrors. Spray evenly across the mirror with mirror cleaner and wipe horizontally in wide strokes moving downward. If needed, take a lint free cloth to the mirror to polish it and get rid of tiny pieces of lint (easier said than done!)

Now that the mirrors are shiny, let’s get the bathroom sinks and counter. Spray all-purpose cleaner evenly around the counter and inside the sink. Spray the faucets as well. Now, wipe everything down with a cloth to dry and clean. For bonus points, polish all surfaces with a microfiber cloth.

Tub and Shower

Next, move on to the tub/shower. Remove any product bottles from the shower. Take a brush with a powder cleaner and scrub from top to bottom all the walls and bottom of the tub/shower. You may need to take a magic eraser to the bottom because some dirt is extra stuck-on. Now, rinse the soapy mess down with the shower/tub water using your hand or a bucket. Also, catch your breath! This one’s a workout.

Toilet

Moving on to the toilet (wear gloves please!). Spray disinfectant on all outside surfaces of the toilet and lid, including around the toilet base. Wipe down and clean. Now, to inside the toilet. Get a metal toilet screen and your powder cleanser. Put some of the powder on the screen and start scrubbing. Start under the rim where you can’t see and work your way down to the very bottom that’s out of sight. Great work, now it looks like new! Make sure to wipe down the floors around your toilet where your mop can’t reach easy.

The Kitchen Speed Clean

The kitchen will be done in one clockwise rotation. Start at a decided entrance of the room, and make your way from left to right. You’ll be starting at the top when you come across an area, like the fridge, and working your way down.

The Fridge, Microwave, Oven and Other Small Appliances

Dust above the appliance, on top of it, and the outer surfaces. Shine it up with a microfiber cloth. If it is a removable appliance, clean under where the appliance was sitting and place it back. Be sure to dust cabinets below it as well. Clean inside the microwave using degreaser and a brush. Clean fridge handles and the rubber seal inside the doors.

Stovetop

Get your brush and powder cleaner with some water and scrub it top to bottom. Take off the knobs and other detachables and clean under them. get off tough messes with a scraper or a magic eraser. Wipe down all surfaces to dry. Replace detached items.

Sink

Remove any dishes and various items in the sink. Scrub with your powder cleaner from the faucets to the drain. for tough messes or stuck on color, get your magic eraser and scrub until clean. Rinse sink down and wipe dry. Shiny!

Dusting the house

We’re done with the kitchen and bathrooms, the rooms that take the most time. On to dusting the whole home. Start at the entrance of the home and work your way clockwise. Coming across a wall, check for cobwebs near the ceiling, dust wall frames, décor, window sills, and wipe any tables or surfaces you come across. Pick up and dust under knickknacks, replacing them after dusting the knickknack. wipe down light switches, too. Finally, finish with the baseboards. Get any crumbs or messes on the floor edges farther in to the center of the room so the vacuum or mop can pick it up later. Be sure to not forget any islands that you may miss.

Floor cleaning

Next up is vacuuming. start with your carpet vacuum and vacuum all rugs and carpets. Now get your floor vacuum and get all the hard floors and edges.

The finishing touch: mopping. Wet your mop head and squeeze it out until it’s barely damp. mop all floors starting from the back of the house, being sure not to backtrack.
